Firstly, Starbucks requires that all employees wear a specific color palette that ensures their green apron is the customer’s main focus. At the end of July, Starbucks announced major changes to their barista dress code. Up until the July 25th dress code change, store baristas had to wear shirts with a collar and were limited to black, white, and under some circumstances khaki.. Now you might be seeing patterns, plaids, navy blue, brown, gray, denim, beanies, and more at Starbucks. No unnatural hair colors, no piercings, no watches or jewelry except a plain wedding band with no stones, and two ear studs in each ear.
Starbucks is unique in the sense that uniforms in polyester aren’t worn. Employees have plenty of choice in the clothes they wear. The hair on the face should be cut appropriately and neat. Employees should therefore settle for outfits with V-neck necklines, boatneck and Crewneck. And whether they will be putting on a long sleeved or short sleeved shirt, it should be buttoned down. It is possible to wear the accent colors of ties, scarfs, and socks so long as they don’t obstruct your Starbucks apron. This means you should avoid graphic patterns that are loud, distracting neon, white, or any other color that could draw attention. The employee’s Starbucks pin has to be visible and securely fashioned on their apron. Only closed-toe and closed-heel shoes are allowed for Starbucks employees, and socks or hosiery must be worn.
I worked at a café once where it was mandatory for all the employees to wear a uniform which was not only hideous but it also came complete with a cap that I disliked. When I was retrenched I became very keen on the eateries that I sought jobs, not that I was against the uniforms, but I wanted something that could flatter my body.
